Many students stepped onto the mat to demonstrate years of hard work, and every single one of them earned their next Rank/Degree Black Belt.

What testing day looks like

Black belt testing isn’t just about kicks and forms. Over the course of the test, students are evaluated on:

Technical skill — forms, sparring, and self-defense technique performed in front of a panel of instructors

Board breaking — a real demonstration of focus and power

Discipline and attitude — how a student carries themselves, not just how they perform

Endurance — testing days are long, and finishing strong matters

A milestone years in the making

For most of our new black belts, this test represents three to five years of consistent training. It’s a reminder that belts aren’t given — they’re earned, class after class, one small improvement at a time.

To every new black belt: congratulations. We’re proud of you, and we can’t wait to see where your training takes you next.

Here’s what we see, class after class, at Taekwondo University.

1. Discipline that carries over

Structured classes teach kids to listen, follow instructions, and stick with something even when it’s hard — habits that show up at school and at home.

2. Real confidence

Earning a new belt is a visible, earned milestone. Kids learn that effort leads to results.

3. Physical fitness

Taekwondo builds strength, flexibility, and coordination without feeling like a chore.

4. Focus and self-control

Especially for younger students, the structure of a martial arts class helps build attention span and impulse control.

5. A genuine community

Students train alongside kids their own age and skill level, building friendships along the way.
